About

I love gardening, food, wildlife and people and consider it a privilege to be able to write about all these things in my role as a freelance journalist. I've been a professional writer for 25 years, cutting my teeth as an apprentice on local newspapers and gaining a proficiency certificate in newspaper journalism before moving into features. I have a keen nose for a story and put it to good use in finding original features, many of which are about fascinating people who have lots of great advice to pass on to readers. Over the past 10 years I have written for Amateur Gardening, The English Garden, Country Homes and Interiors, Period Living, The Simple Things, Kitchen Garden, The Telegraph website, Cotswold Life, The Western Daily Press, GL Weekend, The Gloucestershire Echo, The Gloucester Citizen and Cotswold Essence. As a garden writer I'm an all-rounder, able to turn my hand to features on gardens, plants, allotment growers and knowledgeable nursery owners. I'm also experienced in coming up with recipes that use produce from the garden. I have a L2 RHS diploma in practical horticulture and a seasoned journalist's respect for deadlines, accuracy and originality.

Additional Interests

I have a wildlife-friendly allotment on which I grow fruit and vegetables to feed my family. I play the violin and am a member of Cranham Village Orchestra. I'm co-organiser of Bisley Fete, which is run alongside a traditional village flower show. I'm a champion Victoria sandwich baker and a fervent jam maker I'm especially interested in the role gardening plays in child development, health, well being and rehabilitation, and encouraging wildlife.
