Meet at 10am for coffee
Walk will start at 10.30am
Potential to find a local pub for those who want to have some lunch before heading home.
This garden has been created by Robin Redmile Gordon and if I share this quote from Robin, you might understand why this is a garden which will surprise and delight:“ I’ve spent my life battling the phrase “You can’t do that!” All anyone ever had to tell me was that I couldn’t do something for me to want to go out and do it, and usually did. People have built pyramids, cracked the genome, flown to the moon - how can anyone say, “It can’t be done”?
If you look at Robin’s garden map you will see the Great Barrier Reef, New England, Hollywood, the Royal Mile. He says: “the individual bits, pieces and themes that comprise my garden as it is now, came about for a myriad of reasons. Many aspects are hankering for what I missed or dreamed of as a child. A veranda, ponds, the stream, the hillside, the space, the freedom, the isolation, the privacy, the response to nurture, the achievement of potential, the view into the distance and the physical ability to rise above it all yet look down on the goings-on below.”
Robin will give us a personal tour around his gardens - through the Tree House, exiting the Dell to the Royal Mile, across Sakura and the South Downs, we turn into the private garden, around the Lake District, past the Great Barrier Reef, down through the Grand Canyon…..
He says “My job as a gardener, is to create the illusion of control over nature, knowing full well that nature will always triumph but being content in the quest itself and reaping the occasional, fleeting, creative triumph. All I did in my career was to make enough money to enable me to indulge this obsession. “
We should also ask him about his thoughts on AI in horticulture because I think that could be a fascinating conversation.
