Biography

Plants, planting and drawings of plants and planting. Illustrations: Gardens, plants and other interesting things. Hand drawings for garden design. Public speaker, teaching and workshops: Nature sketching and hand drawing for garden design. Plants and planting talks and workshops. Garden advice, planting and development with roots in plants. Long term projects and one offs I have been delighted to teach and/or talk for Gravetye Manor, Sussex Prairies Wild, Hever Castle, Great Comp and regularly hold workshops and planting talks for the Society of Garden designers, the WFGA and numerous organisations and societies Many moons ago, I trained in fine art in my native Denmark, eventually went into horticulture (including 5 years as head gardener at Long Barn, the precursor to Sissinghurst) and now have fun combining the two and promoting the joy of picking up a pencil.

Talks: Talks include: • Choosing plants in a changing climate- Choosing plants for different conditions to stack the odds in your favour in an unpredictable climate. Gardens often have a variety of conditions, and we will look at how to identify these to make the right plant choices and create new opportunities. • Demystifying planting design-Lots of tools (not rules) for putting plants together. What is meant by structure, shape and form in the garden? How do we create appealing contrasts, long term interest, what does complementary and harmonious colours mean and much more. • Sketching workshops for individuals and groups- get in touch to discuss! Sketching to engage with nature. • Making the winter garden shine- Looking at gardens as a source of year round pleasure brings opportunities for planting and enjoyment.
