Denise Bates is Group Publishing Director at Quarto, London, overseeing the publishing of the adult imprints including Frances Lincoln. Frances Lincoln is the home of well known gardening authors, photographers and organisations including Advolly Richmond, Tim Richardson, David Domoney, Caroline Quentin, the RHS, Kew, Jonathan Buckley and Jason Ingram. Quarto is also the publisher of 2024’s Garden Media Guild’s Gardening Book of the Year, What Makes a Garden by Jinny Blom.
Denise previously held similar roles in lifestyle publishing at Octopus/Hachette, HarperCollins and Ebury/Random House. She is very much not an expert gardener but does know a few things about publishing successful gardening books!
She will talk about what gardening book publishers are currently looking for, how writers, photographers and influencers should approach a publisher, whether you need an agent, what you should write or prepare before you can expect an offer and any other questions you may have. Even if you’ve already had a gardening book or books published, this webinar will give you the inside track on getting your next book published successfully.
You will be able to ask questions in the webinar, but we would also appreciate questions in advance. Email them to co-chair-alexandra@gardenmediaguild.co.uk.
