Biography

Ciarán De Buitléar is an Irish garden writer, author and founder of gardeningwell.ie, where he writes and creates videos about gardening, biodiversity and our connection with the places around us. His gardening content has reached a substantial international audience, including more than 34 million views on YouTube. His first book, Nature’s Acre: An Irish Garden Memoir of Making a Place Where Life Grows, explores gardening, wildlife, community and belonging through the story of the gardens and nature projects he helps care for in County Meath. Ciarán’s writing has appeared in publications including Harrowsmith, GardenRant, Buglife and Resilience.org. He has also contributed to RTÉ Radio 1’s Mooney Goes Wild, RTÉ’s Nationwide and LMFM, and speaks on gardening, biodiversity and community action. He is a trustee of Free Trees Ireland and an An Taisce Climate Ambassador.

Additional Interests

Community gardening and placemaking; biodiversity and habitat creation; nature connection and its relationship with wellbeing; outdoor learning and helping children engage with the natural world; native trees and woodland creation; wildlife-friendly food growing; sustainability and climate action; neurodiversity and the ways gardens and nature can create places of belonging. I’m particularly interested in how caring for one small place can change our relationship with the wider natural world.
