Home Guild Members Emma White Specialities Artist/Illustrator Lecturer Photographer Writer: Consumer Magazines Writer: Trade & Professional Emma White Full Member Biography Emma is an environmental psychologist working at the University of Surrey, investigating the psychological benefits of natural environments, including gardens. Emma combines her research with extensive experience of working in and writing about gardens, and is a qualified garden designer, having studied at KLC School of Garden Design at Hampton Court Palace. Whilst there, Emma received several awards for her design work, including the Great Dixter Award for Planting Design, the Best Urban Garden Award, and a gold medal for the design of a new area at The Eden Project. Emma has written and taken photographs for several gardening magazines, including The English Garden, The Garden Design Journal and Amateur Gardening. Emma has a very adaptable writing style and is able to communicate effectively to a range of different audiences, writing not only for gardeners and those wanting to understand a bit about how nature affects wellbeing, but also producing technical reports, policy documents, and academic journal articles. Emma also gives talks and lectures to academic and non-academic audiences, including lectures to garden design students on how psychology can inform garden design to create spaces in which people can be happy and healthy.
