Biography

After being able to retire in 2004 at the age of 51, Geoff turned to gardening and has never looked back. Geoff Stonebanks lives in East Sussex and spends all his time gardening, writing for various garden media and fundraising for charity. Using his multi award-winning garden, Driftwood, he has raised over £182,000 for various charities in 16 years, £123,606 of that for Macmillan Cancer Support, and £34,000 for the National Garden Scheme. The garden, which first opened to the public in 2009 has featured twice on BBC2 Gardeners' World, Good Morning Britain, on George Clarke's Kitchen VS Gardens on C4 and in many national and local media publications. In his spare time, Geoff is also the Publicity Officer in East & Mid Sussex for the National Garden Scheme. Geoff provides garden talks to local clubs and horticultural societies in and around Sussex/Kent.

Additional Interests

Geoff loves to work in his own garden and is instinctively creative and always feels as though he is painting with plants and creating a film set rather than a garden. He uses his own gardening experiences to write a full page, weekly gardening feature in The Argus in Brighton and monthly in Bournefree Magazine in Eastbourne plus quartely in Sussex Exclusive, a digital magazine and other adhoc features. Geoff also writes regular features promoting NGS garden openings across Sussex and provides weekly broadcasts on BBC Radio Sussex promoting the NGS through the open garden season.
