Biography

Over the past twenty years, I have worked across many areas of horticulture — from practical landscape work and estate gardens to community growing, public gardens and garden management. These experiences have shaped the way I think about plants, particularly pruning and working with woody perennials. Through years of observation and practice, I have developed what I describe as a plant-centred approach to pruning, rooted in ecology, plant behaviour and long-term garden health rather than rigid formulas.

Additional Interests

I live a creatively empowered life. My design practice supports my family and the families of my small team. Alongside this we keep a smallholding, where hard work and self-employment allow us to enjoy the literal fruits of our labour. We keep sheep, chickens and ducks, and grow as much of our own food as possible. I love to paint, write and make things with my children. At forty-four, I have also started learning the piano and remain slightly addicted to reading. I have a lovely dog called Magot who helps me draft my articles.
