Biography

Laura Whiskens is a passionate garden writer and sustainable horticulture advocate. Since February 2024, she has written a monthly garden column for her local newspaper, sharing practical advice, seasonal inspiration, and thoughtful reflections on the joys of growing. She is also a regular contributor to Garden Folk Magazine, where her work explores the intersection of gardening, biodiversity, and community well-being. In 2025, Laura’s creative and environmentally conscious design approach earned her a Silver-Merit Award at BBC Gardener’s World Live. She has also been recognised with multiple accolades including Best Newcomer, Endeavour, and Biodiversity Awards by the North Warwickshire Allotment Federation, as well as the title of Best Allotment by Coleshill Town Council. Her writing is rooted in hands-on experience and a deep respect for nature’s rhythms.

I am a passionate advocate for the link between gardening and mental wellbeing, and my writing often focuses on how nurturing green spaces can support emotional resilience, mindfulness and a sense of purpose.
