Biography

Writer: consumer magazines, national newspapers, author. Sound broadcaster, lecturer. A lifetime in horticulture, 18 years as a head gardener at Bourton House , Near Moreton in Marsh Glos. 12 Years head gardener at East Court, Charlton Kings, Glos. private garden open for NGS. Specialities: container gardening, garden design and plantsmanship, plant based design garden science and natural history which can't help but go hand in hand with gardening. Former BBC local radio broadcaster. Author of books on container gardening, garden science, houseplants, climbers and colour.

Additional Interests

Gardening based on experience and science not passed on myths and fancy. An interest in the minutiae of what makes plants work, the tiny fungi and insect life and all things that make the soil and garden work.

Fees: £140 plus travel at 40p per mile . This is negotiable for small and newly established clubs.

Talks: All talks a delivered with energy and a sense of humour plus a nature table of curiosities and examples of topical garden plants when the season allows. All are illustrated . The Garden a Natural History Paradise. A look at the observable but need to be looked for little organisms in the garden. Natural History and Gardening are inseparable . Digging Deeper - a gentle look at the science of plants and soils plus some oddities. Not as heavy as it might sound. Bourton House Garden - The Early Days. A look at the early stages of the development of the garden at Bourton House from the early 1980s. Plus some of my work at East Court.
