Neil Grant



Neil has been Managing Director of Ferndale Garden Centre on the outskirts of Sheffield since 1982 & BBC Radio Sheffield garden expert & co-presenter of the weekly phone in every Sunday morning since 2004. the program has 32-35,000 listeners weekly. Neil's passion is to see garden users learn & explore the ways to make their gardens, their plants & the spare time easier & interesting. Neil also founded in 2015 'National Children's Gardening Week' which takes place during the summer half term. The aim is to enable children to garden & grow plants from a week that most plants will thrive in the UK. Currently around 50 garden centre participate along with suppliers & other children focused groups. The week also aims to link non garden organisations & help them promote family garden activities. This includes Sainbury's Bank at present. Neil trained at Writtle Agricultural College attaining Distinction at Commercial Horticulture HND. Neil is an active participant in the garden industry having been a regional representative & then Director of the Garden Centre Association. Neil is currently a council member of the Horticultural Trades Association representing 130 members in Yorkshire & the the North East. Neil is also a member of the HTA retail committee & sits on a various ad hoc groups discussing the future for gardening & the industry. Neil is married with two grown up children & lives in Sheffield.
