Biography

Sarah lives in Hertfordshire with hundreds of rescued plants and is an author and writer. Her book The Plant Rescuer – The Book Your Houseplants Want you to Read published by Bloomsbury was released in April 2022. Her print and media appearances include BBC Gardeners’ World, ITV, BBC Two, The Times, The Scotsman, Gardens Illustrated, Homes and Gardens and she has written for Bloom and Gardeners’ Worlds Magazine. In January 2022 Sarah founded The Plant Rescue Box Initiative – a scheme to encourage plant retailers to stop binning imperfect plants. ‘Those of us who buy houseplants like to think of our hobby as being ‘green’, but houseplant production has a large environmental footprint, made even greater by our unwillingness to accept anything but absolute perfection. Plants considered unsuitable for sale because of an 'imperfection' are thrown away in their millions. Most of us agree that throwing away vegetables because they’re wonky shouldn’t be an acceptable practice, and yet houseplants are being discarded on a massive scale for the same reason. It's this senseless waste that the Plant Rescue Box aims to address’ – Sarah Gerrard-Jones
